A New Hobby Begins

I went for my first long motorcycle ride this morning. Candice and I completed our motorcycle training course last weekend, but the bike needed some work so this was the first real chance we’ve had to ride. We were told that learning to ride would change our lives and I’m thinking that might very well be true. At least a little.

It was a lot of fun, but also a little nerve-wracking since I’m certainly not very experienced yet. I drove south of Marion and was gone for at least 45 minutes.

The ride was a series of firsts for me. One was obviously the length of time, but other firsts included riding on gravel (chip-and-sealed road), reaching 55 mph (of course 45 mph came first), getting hit in the face by a bug, and getting gas.

I also did a couple dumb things, the worst was that I turned on the gas tank wrong so I was riding the whole time using the reserve tank. I was wondering why I kept stalling. Apparently those were the times the reserve tank got low and needed to fill back up.

All in all it was a good ride and I can’t wait to get out again.

Death of Bin Laden

Drawing of the bin Laden compound - released by U.S. Defense Dept.

It’s been nearly a week since the death of Osama Bin Laden and my feelings from the first day have not changed. I waited to post to make sure that my feelings were not just spur of the moment and they are not.

I really have no feelings or opinion on the actual killing of this man. He was evil, there is no doubt, but to kill a person…I just don’t know. I’m not sure there is a right or a wrong answer, even if you take a Biblical approach. I suppose that killing him was the easiest conclusion. Continue reading

Comparing Chipotles

Candice and I stopped at Chipotle in Polaris Sunday evening. I really enjoy spending my money in Marion, but when it comes to Chipotle it’s really hard. I like the Marion Chipotle just fine, but it really is lacking when compared to those at Polaris and in Columbus. For the most part, I really can’t put my finger on why, but there are a couple differences. Continue reading

Neighborhood Image – One Year

Candice and I hit the one year anniversary of Neighborhood Image. Of course, the actual date is up for debate. We registered the name in December 2009. We took over by contract on March 1, 2010. Our first billing went out on April 1, 2010.

At first I thought the date should be April 1, but that seems odd with April Fool’s Day. So I think maybe March 1 will be the date. The nice thing is it will be easy to remember how many years it’s been since it started in 2010.

I don’t know…maybe I spend too much time thinking about odd things. Maybe…

Family History

A photo of my ancestors Simon & Elizabeth (Carns) DeWitt.

I recently re-started researching my family history. I’ve goofed around with this a couple times over the years. Luckily I saved all of my files from each time. Since I was using a program from Ancestry.com, it was easy to get things going again. So now I have nearly 300 family names entered and some information, beyond birth dates, on quite a few of them.

As part of my digging around, I actually ran across my Uncle Tom. I’ve never really known my uncle. He is on my dad’s side and I never got to know much of his family. We did spend quite a bit of time with some, but unfortunately never got to know everyone. Continue reading
