I went for my first long motorcycle ride this morning. Candice and I completed our motorcycle training course last weekend, but the bike needed some work so this was the first real chance we’ve had to ride. We were told that learning to ride would change our lives and I’m thinking that might very well be true. At least a little.
It was a lot of fun, but also a little nerve-wracking since I’m certainly not very experienced yet. I drove south of Marion and was gone for at least 45 minutes.
The ride was a series of firsts for me. One was obviously the length of time, but other firsts included riding on gravel (chip-and-sealed road), reaching 55 mph (of course 45 mph came first), getting hit in the face by a bug, and getting gas.
I also did a couple dumb things, the worst was that I turned on the gas tank wrong so I was riding the whole time using the reserve tank. I was wondering why I kept stalling. Apparently those were the times the reserve tank got low and needed to fill back up.
All in all it was a good ride and I can’t wait to get out again.
